From enchanting woodland ceremonies to elegant garden celebrations and comfortable overnight accommodations, each space serves a unique purpose while contributing to the venue's signature wedding weekend experience.

Chapel in the Woods

Nestled beneath a canopy of mature trees, the Chapel in the Woods is one of Historic Jasmine's most iconic ceremony locations. Surrounded by lush forest, this enchanting outdoor setting creates the feeling of exchanging vows in a private woodland sanctuary. The ceremony site features a white chapel façade with doors that can remain closed for a dramatic entrance or opened to reveal a beautiful wooden cross. A brick walkway leads to the altar, while permanent benches provide seating for up to 150 guests with additional seating available for larger celebrations.

Ideal for couples dreaming of a forest wedding, woodsy wedding, or fairytale-inspired outdoor ceremony.

Garden Pergola

The Garden Pergola offers a timeless garden ceremony setting surrounded by mature shade trees, manicured landscaping, boxwood hedges, and winding brick pathways. Guests enter through a secluded garden entrance before arriving at the elegant eight-pillared pergola, which can be personalized with florals, drapery, or other decorative elements. Ceremony chairs and complete setup and breakdown are included with wedding packages.

Perfect for couples envisioning a romantic garden wedding or elegant outdoor ceremony.

Garden Terrace

The Garden Terrace is one of Historic Jasmine's most versatile event spaces. Its covered design provides a dedicated rain plan for wedding ceremonies while also serving as an ideal location for cocktail hours, rehearsal dinners, intimate receptions, and micro weddings. Featuring brick flooring, elegant drapery, lighting, and retractable side panels, the terrace offers comfort and flexibility regardless of the weather.

Reception Tent & Pavilion

Historic Jasmine's permanent 40-by-60-foot marquee reception tent combines the beauty of an outdoor celebration with the comfort of a protected event space. The tent features brick flooring, crystal chandeliers, elegant ceiling drapery, and twinkling overhead lighting that create a romantic atmosphere for dinner and dancing. During cooler months, the space can be heated to keep guests comfortable throughout the evening.

An attached pavilion provides additional room for catering, guest seating, and event operations while maintaining convenient flow throughout the celebration. Venue staff handle the setup and breakdown of included tables and chairs according to each couple's floor plan.

Garden Terrace & Brick Bistro

Adjacent to the reception spaces, the Garden Terrace and Brick Bistro provide a welcoming setting for cocktail hour. Guests can mingle beneath the covered terrace, gather around bistro tables on the open-air brick patio, or relax in the nearby Walnut Tree Lounge while enjoying drinks and conversation before the reception begins. This flexible area is also frequently used for rehearsal dinners, lawn games, and intimate celebrations.

The Salon

The Salon serves as one of Historic Jasmine's dedicated getting-ready suites. Designed with elegance and comfort in mind, the space features two built-in hair and makeup stations, antique furnishings, French doors overlooking the gardens, and abundant natural light for both preparations and photography. Beyond wedding mornings, The Salon and its adjoining terrace can also host micro weddings, bridal showers, baby showers, birthday celebrations, and corporate gatherings.

The Study

The Study offers a warm, comfortable retreat for wedding preparations. Featuring a decorative fireplace, leather seating, antique bookcases, vintage dΓ©cor, and a private bathroom with a shower, the suite provides a relaxed environment where couples and their wedding party can spend time together before the ceremony.

Tavern Room

Located inside the Manor House, the Tavern Room adds another layer of flexibility to the wedding experience. Often used as a secondary bar, wedding party gathering space, or specialty hospitality station for coffee, cookies, or ice cream, the room creates additional opportunities for guests to connect throughout the celebration.

Overnight Accommodations

Historic Jasmine's beautifully restored 18th-century Manor House allows couples to extend their celebration into a true wedding weekend. The home includes seven uniquely appointed guest rooms with private bathrooms, comfortably accommodating up to 14 overnight guests. Couples and their loved ones also enjoy access to shared living spaces, a dining room, and a kitchenette with a sink, microwave, and refrigerator, making it easy to relax together before and after the wedding day.

For many couples, the on-site accommodations transform Historic Jasmine from simply a wedding venue into a destination-style wedding experience where meaningful memories are created long before the ceremony begins.

The Historic Jasmine Experience

Historic Jasmine is more than a collection of beautiful event spacesβ€”it's a place designed to help couples slow down, be present, and celebrate one of life's most meaningful milestones. Every part of the property has been thoughtfully planned to create a wedding experience that feels relaxed, seamless, and deeply personal.

Designed for Couples Who Value Meaningful Moments

Historic Jasmine is a favorite among couples who want more than a beautiful backdrop. They want a wedding that feels authentic, welcoming, and true to who they are. Whether you're drawn to the property's Revolutionary War history, enchanted by its forested ceremony sites, or dreaming of a full wedding weekend surrounded by family and friends, Historic Jasmine offers a setting where every celebration feels both timeless and uniquely personal.

A Wedding Day That Flows Naturally

One of the compliments we hear most often is how naturally the wedding day unfolds. From getting ready in the Manor House to exchanging vows beneath the trees or in the gardens, enjoying cocktail hour on the terrace, celebrating under the marquee tent, and ending the evening with loved ones just steps away, every space was intentionally designed to create a smooth and enjoyable experience for couples and guests alike. Rather than spending the day traveling between locations, everyone remains together on one beautiful property, allowing more time to celebrate and less time worrying about logistics.

More Time With the People You Love

For many couples, some of the most cherished memories happen outside the ceremony itself. With overnight accommodations for up to 14 guests, Historic Jasmine makes it possible to transform your wedding into a true weekend experience. Families gather for rehearsal dinners, friends share late-night conversations after the reception, and couples wake up surrounded by the people who matter most. These unhurried moments often become just as meaningful as the wedding day itself.

Where History and Nature Come Together

There are few places where centuries of Virginia history and the beauty of nature exist so effortlessly side by side. Historic Jasmine's 1750 Manor House, Revolutionary War heritage, mature forests, formal gardens, winding brick pathways, and thoughtfully designed event spaces create an atmosphere that feels both elegant and grounded. It's a venue with genuine characterβ€”one that doesn't need to imitate history because it has lived it.

Venue History

Historic Jasmine is a place where centuries of Virginia history and modern love stories come together. Long before it became a wedding venue, the property played a role in the founding of our nation. Today, the same estate continues to welcome couples beginning one of the most important chapters of their own lives.

A Historic Virginia Estate

Historic Jasmine's story began in 1680, when the property was originally patented by George Morris, a surveyor and member of the Virginia House of Burgesses representing New Kent County.

The Manor House that stands today was built in 1750 and remains one of the property's defining features. During the American Revolutionary War, the estate served as headquarters for General George Washington's army on October 8, 1781, just days before the decisive Siege of Yorktown. Historical records document Revolutionary soldiers conducting military exercises on the property's front pasture before marching to Yorktown, where the Continental Army secured victory in the final major battle of the war.

Originally encompassing more than 1,100 acres, the estate remained in the Morris family for over a century before changing ownership in 1850.

While portions of the property's history were lost following the destruction of New Kent County records in 1787 and the burning of Richmond during the Civil War in 1865, Historic Jasmine continues to preserve and celebrate the remarkable stories that remain.

In 1918, the estate was purchased by Henry and Matte Brenneman. Matte, an accomplished artist, left her own lasting legacy on the property through original murals and paintings that still decorate the Manor House today.

The Smith Family's Vision

In September 2005, the Smith family purchased Historic Jasmine with the dream of operating a charming bed and breakfast.

Just one month later, they hosted the property's first weddingβ€”a small celebration of approximately 30 guests on the Manor House front porch. That single wedding changed everything.

Inspired by the joy of bringing people together, the Smith family began transforming Historic Jasmine into a full-time wedding venue unlike any other in Virginia. Their vision extended far beyond creating a beautiful event space. They wanted to build a place rooted in authenticity, hospitality, and meaningful connectionβ€”a venue where couples, families, and friends could gather to celebrate life's most important moments.

More than two decades later, Historic Jasmine remains family-owned and operated, with every improvement guided by the same mission: creating a place where every couple feels welcomed, cared for, and part of the property's ongoing story.

Growing With Every Celebration

Historic Jasmine has never stopped evolving.

Since 2005, the Smith family has continually invested in enhancing the property while preserving its historic character. Thoughtful additionsβ€”including the Garden Pergola, Chapel in the Woods, Celebration Bell Tower, Reception Pavilion, Walnut Tree Lounge, Public House Bar, expanded Garden Terrace, guest amenities, and beautifully landscaped gardensβ€”have transformed Historic Jasmine into one of Central Virginia's most distinctive wedding venues.

Every new feature has been designed with one purpose in mind: creating an unforgettable experience for couples and their guests while honoring the property's rich history.

Today, Historic Jasmine blends more than 300 years of Virginia history with modern comforts, offering a wedding venue where timeless architecture, enchanting woodlands, thoughtfully designed event spaces, and genuine hospitality come together in one extraordinary setting.

Every celebration held at Historic Jasmine becomes part of a story that has been unfolding for generationsβ€”and will continue for generations to come.

What Couples Say About Historic Jasmine

β€œFrom the moment we first inquired about this venue, we knew we were in good hands. The communication with the owners was absolutely exceptionalβ€”warm, responsive, and genuinely invested in making our day as special as possible. Every question was answered promptly, and every detail we hoped for was thoughtfully considered. Their professionalism and kindness gave us so much peace of mind throughout the entire planning process. Now, let’s talk about the groundsβ€”they are truly breathtaking. This venue is a hidden gem of natural beauty, offering lush gardens, winding paths, and picturesque backdrops at every turn. It was like stepping into a romantic fairytale. The versatility of the space allowed us to design each part of the day exactly how we envisionedβ€”from an intimate ceremony in the garden, to cocktail hour under the trees, and a magical reception under the stars. It flowed effortlessly. We truly had our perfect romantic garden wedding, and it wouldn’t have been possible without this incredible venue and its dedicated team. If you’re looking for a place that feels like a dream and owners who treat your big day like their own, look no further. We are endlessly grateful!”

β€œThis venue is EVERYTHING. The fact that you are able to stay the night the night before and of the wedding was seriously a game changer. The photographer and videographer had no idea where to start with capturing it all. The Smith family are absolute DOLLS and did everything to ensure our days went as smoothly as possible. They did everything in their power to keep the place as completely spick and span as possible and never felt at all intrusive. They are so kind, and you can really feel the love they have for their space! There are so many choices, they are so accommodating, and yes it's a little out there, but if you're really wanting a fairytale, this is IT. <3”

β€” Courtney J., bride

β€œOur experience with the Historic Jasmine was nothing short of a dream. From day one the owners made us feel 100% welcome and the flexibility and freedom to plan our day how we wanted was amazing. They’ve really thought of every detail and there’s not a single spot on the property that isn’t picture worthy. Grounds were spotless and staff were out of sight but available on demand! Truly couldn’t have imagined our day any more perfect and would host our wedding here a million times over!”

β€” Lindsay B., bride

β€œWe had a perfect experience working with the Smith family planning our wedding at the Historic Jasmine. Everything went so smoothly, and Ashton communicated with us very promptly about any questions we had. Both ceremony options are gorgeous, and there are so many scenic places to get great photos. Having the reception tent with fans was a huge plus, as we had a summer wedding and it poured rain the day before. The ability to have our families and us stay right on the property was just perfect. We highly recommend the Historic Jasmine for your wedding!”
